I am currently planning a trip to Australia in 2010 to hold workshops. One, or possibly more, workshops will be held in the Melbourne area. However, I'm looking for suitable venues in other locations and states too - and co-organisers. If you think you could help find a suitable venue in your area and find, with my assistance, at least 20 people wishing to attend, you'll receive a free workshop currently worth up to
£225.00. If you are interested in assisting me to set up a workshop in your area, please click the button below:
Overview
A typical Graphite Pencil Drawing 3-day workshop

Duration : 3 days, 10 am to 5 pm
These informal workshops are designed for artists of all abilities, from novice to advanced, and who have a desire to take their drawing to a new level of realism.
Realism is achieved by closely studying textures, and then mastering the ways to interpret them and commit them to paper. These workshops will provide you with a greater ability to explore and understand textures, the techniques required to render them in a believable way, and you will learn both the "how" and the "why". Whatever your present ability, you will leave with a new-found knowledge of how to draw and use textures to the benefit of your work.
Paper, pencils and all other necessary supplies are included. However, if you prefer to use your own favourite pencils and tools, please bring them with you.
A number of Mike's original drawings will be made available so you can study them in close detail, and Mike will be happy answer all queries and demonstrate specific techniques used. Please feel free to bring examples of your own work along.

Itinerary: 3-day PENCIL WORKSHOP
These workshops are flexible to take into account your present level of ability. This is a typical itinerary to give you an idea of the probable content:
DAY 1: In the morning, after a short initial drawing session, you will receive tuition on graphite pencil techniques including pencil points and the application of line and tone. This will be followed by demonstrations and exercises using blending, indenting and creative erasing. The day will finish with an introduction to Negative Drawing.
DAY 2: In the morning Mike will further demonstrate various aspects of Negative Drawing including an exercise involving a series of small drawings for you to create. Later Mike will advise on identifying and solving potential problems in your work, and how to use two-dimensional reference photos to recreate our three-dimensional world. Advice will be given on how to extract the main visual clues from your source images (or imagination), how to use them, and how the emphasis of key features can increase the reality in your drawings.
In the afternoon reference photos will feature when you and your fellow students will begin working on identical drawings (photos and guideline drawing provided for each student).
DAY 3: The day will be spent working on your drawing. This day has an informal structure so Mike can cover any subject you wish to raise at any time during the day - including demonstrations as required. At the close, all the drawings may be displayed for a group critique and discussion - you are not expected to have completed the drawing!
If you wish to complete any workshop drawing at home, send scans or photos to Mike at any stage for inclusion in the
Workshop Plus online resource - your workshop does not stop the moment you leave the building! Mike will also be happy to answer any queries or offer advice on any aspect relating to the content of your workshop.
